WordKeep Privacy Policy

1. Purposes of Processing

We process the minimum information necessary for the following purposes only.

1. Providing the learning service
   • Persisting learning progress, spaced-repetition (SRS) review schedule, and per-word mastery status
   • Persisting quiz history, accuracy, and study statistics
   • Persisting words you add yourself (your custom word list)
   • Persisting your daily goal, pronunciation accent, interface language, and other settings
2. Study reminders
   • Showing a study reminder on your device at a daily time you choose. Reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely on-device with no external server.
3. Camera word scan
   • Reading an English word framed by your camera in the search bar using on-device optical character recognition (OCR), to use it as a search term.
4. Pronunciation playback
   • Playing a word's pronunciation using your device's built-in text-to-speech (TTS).
5. In-app purchases
   • Processing the purchase and restoration of learning packs (Suneung, school, TOEIC, TOEFL, or the all-in bundle).
6. App sharing
   • When you tap the share button at the top of the Home screen, your operating system's native share sheet is invoked so you can forward a short WordKeep description and store links to other apps (messengers, email, etc.). We do not store or analyze the share action itself.
7. Advertising and service operation
   • Banner, interstitial, app-open, and native ads via Google AdMob
   • Apple App Tracking Transparency (ATT) consent management on iOS

2. Information Handled

(1) Information stored on your device only

The App requires no sign-up or login and does not collect personally identifiable information such as name, email, or phone number.

The following information is stored only inside the App's local storage (Hive / SharedPreferences) and is never transmitted to any external server.

• Learning progress, spaced-repetition (SRS) schedule, and per-word mastery status
• Quiz history, accuracy, and study statistics
• Words you add yourself (your custom word list)
• Daily goal and amount studied
• Whether reminders are enabled and the reminder time
• Pronunciation accent (US/UK), interface language, and other settings
• Owned learning packs (a cache used to restore purchases)

(2) Camera images (only when you scan a word)

The camera activates only when you use the camera scan feature in the search bar. The captured image is processed entirely on your device using Google ML Kit on-device text recognition, extracting only a single English word inside the on-screen frame as your search term.

• A temporary cropped image used for processing is stored in the App's temporary directory and is overwritten by the same file on the next scan.
• Neither the captured image nor the cropped image is transmitted to or stored on any external server, nor is it saved to your photo library.
• Uninstalling the App also removes all images in the temporary directory.

(3) Information collected automatically (third-party SDKs)

The Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) included in the App may automatically collect the following information for ad delivery.

• Advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID / iOS IDFA)
• IP address
• Device information (OS version, device model, language, country, app version)
• Approximate location (country/region level inferred from IP address — no separate location permission is used)
• Ad and app interaction information such as impressions and clicks
• App diagnostics (crash logs and performance data collected by the ads SDK)

The above information is processed in accordance with Google's privacy policy and may be transmitted to and processed on servers operated by Google LLC (including in the United States) for ad delivery. See policies.google.com/privacy for details.

iOS users: On iOS 14+, Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) system prompt is shown once on first launch. IDFA is used for personalized ads only if you allow tracking. If you decline, all learning features remain fully available and non-personalized ads are shown instead.

(4) In-app purchase information

Payment for learning packs is handled directly by the Apple App Store and Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment method details such as card numbers; we store only the result of purchase verification (an identifier of which learning packs you own) on your device.

(5) Ad formats

WordKeep shows the following ad formats:

• Banner: at the bottom of the screen.
• Interstitial: shown periodically at intervals between study sessions.
• App Open: shown on a fresh launch or when reopening the app after a long time away.
• Native: shown inside the exit-confirmation screen that appears when you press back to leave the app on Android.

WordKeep does not use rewarded ads, and purchasing any one paid learning pack removes all ads.

3. Retention and Storage Locations

Uninstalling the App permanently removes all locally stored learning data. Recovery is not possible.

4. Third-Party Sharing

We do not share your information with any third party except in the following cases.

• When you have given prior consent
• When required by law or by lawful request from investigative authorities

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We do not operate any account server and do not entrust personal information processing to outside parties. The App includes the following third-party SDKs / services governed by their own privacy policies.

6. App Permissions

WordKeep uses only the minimum permissions required to operate, and declining an optional permission still lets you use the core learning features.

• Internet access (required): used to load ads, process in-app purchases and restores, and check for app updates. Learning features work fully offline; only ads are unavailable.
• Camera (optional): used to recognize an English word with on-device OCR in the search bar's scan feature. If you decline, only camera scanning is unavailable; you can still search by typing.
• Notifications (optional): used to show your daily study reminder. All learning features remain available regardless of your choice.
• Exact alarm / run on boot (Android): used to schedule the study reminder precisely at your chosen time and re-register it after a device restart.
• Vibration: used for haptic feedback during study and quizzes.
• Advertising ID (Android): used to serve Google AdMob ads.
• App Tracking Transparency (iOS, optional): used to ask your permission for personalized advertising. All learning features remain available regardless of your choice.

WordKeep does not request location, contacts, photo library, or file access, and does not save camera images to your photo library or transmit them externally.

7. Your Rights

You may control your learning data and advertising identifier at any time using the following methods.

1. Manage data directly in the app's settings, e.g. turn off study reminders or delete items from your custom word list
2. iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → toggle off "WordKeep"
3. Android: Settings → Google → Ads → "Reset advertising ID" or "Opt out of Ads Personalization"
4. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data at once

8. Data Deletion

When you uninstall the App, all locally stored learning data is permanently removed from your device. We do not operate any account server, so no personal data is retained on our side. Note that your purchase records remain in your App Store / Google Play account and can be restored when you reinstall.

9. Data Security

• Technical measures: Learning data is stored only inside the App's sandboxed local storage, isolated from external access by the operating system.
• On-device processing: Text recognition for camera word scan runs entirely on your device; images are not transmitted externally.
• Data minimization: We process only the minimum information necessary to provide the service.
• Third-party SDKs: We use only well-established SDKs (Google AdMob, Google ML Kit) and rely on their providers' privacy practices.

10. Children's Privacy

WordKeep is a vocabulary learning app for general learners, including students. The App requires no account registration and does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information. We recommend that users under 14 use the App under guardian supervision, and that in-app purchases be made with guardian consent. For inquiries regarding deletion of locally stored data or App management, please contact us using the information below.

11. Personal Information Officer

Hasegi Inc. designates the following personal information officer to oversee personal-information-related matters and to handle user complaints and remedies.

12. Changes to this Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective from June 20, 2026. Updates will take effect upon posting on this page or by in-app notice.
