WordKeep Terms of Service
Effective: June 20, 2026
These Terms govern your use of the mobile app WordKeep (the "Service") provided by Hasegi Inc. (the "Company"), and define the rights, obligations, and responsibilities between the Company and the user. By installing and using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to these Terms.
1. Purpose
These Terms set out the conditions and procedures for using the WordKeep app and related services, the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of users and the Company, and other necessary matters.
2. Definitions
- "Service" means the WordKeep app and all related features provided by the Company.
- "User" means anyone who uses the Service under these Terms.
- "Content" means all materials provided within the Service, including word data, example sentences, translations, pronunciation (text-to-speech) output, visual design, and text.
- "User Data" means data generated through use of the Service, such as learning progress, spaced-repetition (SRS) schedule, quiz statistics, words you add yourself (your custom word list), and goals/settings.
- "Paid Content (learning packs)" means the Suneung, school, TOEIC, and TOEFL learning packs and the all-in bundle, offered through in-app purchase.
3. Effect and Amendment of Terms
- These Terms take effect for all users of the Service.
- The Company may amend these Terms within the limits of applicable law, and will announce any changes via in-app notice or app update.
- If you do not agree to the amended Terms, you may stop using the Service and uninstall the app. If you continue to use the Service after the effective date of the amended Terms, you are deemed to have accepted them.
4. Provision of the Service
- The Company provides the following Service.
- Spaced-repetition (SRS) learning of English words for Suneung, school, TOEIC, and TOEFL exams, with four quiz modes
- Records of learning progress, accuracy, and statistics, and a custom word list
- Word search via camera word scan (on-device OCR) in the search bar
- Listening to word pronunciation via the device's built-in text-to-speech (TTS)
- A daily study reminder at a time you choose
- In-app purchase of learning packs (Suneung, school, TOEIC, TOEFL, or the all-in bundle)
- Forwarding the app's description and store links to other apps via the share button at the top of the Home screen (system share sheet)
- Advertising to maintain and operate the Service
- Other services the Company develops or provides through partnerships
- The Service is, in principle, provided 24 hours a day, year-round. However, use may be temporarily restricted due to app updates, system maintenance, network outages, or device conditions.
- The Company may change the content of the Service to improve quality and will announce such changes via app update.
5. Using the Service
- The Service can be used immediately after installation without any sign-up procedure.
- Users must use the Service in compliance with these Terms and applicable laws.
- Mobile data charges incurred while using the Service are borne by the user.
6. Paid Services and Payment
- The Company provides both free basic learning and paid learning packs.
- When used for free, a daily learning-card limit (default 30) and a custom-word-list limit (default 50) apply, and ads are shown in the Service.
- Purchasing any one paid learning pack (Suneung, school, TOEIC, TOEFL, or the all-in bundle) removes ads, lifts the above free limits, and adds the words of the purchased pack to your learning scope.
- Learning packs are non-consumable products usable permanently after a single payment. If you reinstall the app or install it on another device under the same store account, you can recover your owned packs via the in-app "Restore Purchases" function.
- All payment and settlement is handled through the Apple App Store or Google Play; the amount, method, and currency follow the information registered in your store account and the store's policies. The Company does not directly collect or store your payment method details.
- The price and composition of Paid Content may change in accordance with the Company's or the store's policy; such changes do not affect content already purchased before the change.
7. Withdrawal and Refunds
- Refunds for purchased Paid Content follow the refund policy and procedures of the store (App Store / Google Play) where the payment was made. Refund requests must therefore, in principle, be made through that store; the Company cannot provide refunds directly outside the store.
- Because paid learning packs are non-consumable digital content delivered and used immediately upon purchase, the right of withdrawal may be restricted to the extent permitted by the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce and the store's policy.
- If content cannot be used normally due to a defect not attributable to the user or due to the Company's fault, you may receive a refund or remedial measures in accordance with applicable law.
- If a minor makes a purchase without the consent of a legal guardian, the minor or the guardian may cancel the transaction in accordance with applicable law; cancellation and refund are processed through the relevant store's procedures.
8. Advertising
- To maintain and operate the Service, the Company may display the following ads to free users, and the user agrees to this.
- Banner ads: at the bottom of the screen
- Interstitial ads: shown periodically at intervals between study sessions
- App-open ads: shown on a fresh launch or when reopening the app after a long time away
- Native ads: shown inside the exit-confirmation screen that appears when you press back to leave the app on Android
- The Company delivers ads via Google AdMob; ad content follows the Company's and the ad platform's policies.
- Users who have purchased a paid learning pack under Section 6 are not shown ads.
- The Company is not responsible for any loss or damage arising from a user's participation in, communication with, or transactions resulting from advertisers' promotions in or through the Service.
- On iOS 14+, users can choose whether to allow personalized advertising via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt shown on first launch; all learning features remain available even if declined.
9. User Obligations
Users must not engage in the following.
- Unauthorized modification, reproduction, distribution, transmission, or publication of Content such as word data, example sentences, and translations
- Infringing the intellectual property or other rights of others
- Damaging the reputation of, or interfering with the business of, the Company or others
- Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling the Service
- Using malicious code, programs, or data-tampering tools to artificially manipulate payment, entitlements (owned packs), or learning records, or otherwise interfere with the normal operation of the Service
- Manipulating the ad system to generate invalid clicks or impressions
- Other acts that violate applicable laws
10. Copyright of Content
- The copyright of all Content provided within the Service (word data, example sentences, translations, pronunciation audio, visual design, applied fonts, etc.) belongs to the Company or the respective rights holders.
- Users may not commercially use the Service's Content or provide it to third parties without the Company's prior written consent.
- Users may use the Service only for personal, non-commercial learning purposes.
- The rights to words you add yourself (your custom word list) belong to you; the Company does not collect them on any server and stores them only on your device.
11. Management of User Data
- The Service does not operate any account server; User Data (learning progress, statistics, custom word list, settings, etc.) is stored entirely in your device's local storage.
- You are responsible for managing the User Data stored on your device, and the Company is not responsible for data loss due to device damage, app deletion, OS reset, etc.
- Records such as learning progress and statistics are kept only within the same device and are not automatically synced or transferred to other devices. Ownership of paid learning packs, however, can be restored via your store account.
12. Restriction and Suspension of the Service
- The Company may restrict or suspend use of the Service in the following cases.
- When unavoidable due to maintenance or construction of service facilities
- When a user interferes with the Company's business activities
- When a third-party service (Google AdMob, App Store / Google Play, etc.) experiences a failure
- Other force majeure events such as natural disasters or national emergencies
- The Company may restrict or suspend all or part of the Service when normal use is hindered by a national emergency, service facility failure, or a surge in usage.
13. Disclaimer
- The Company is exempt from responsibility for providing the Service when it cannot do so due to a natural disaster or equivalent force majeure.
- The Company is not responsible for service disruptions caused by reasons attributable to the user.
- The Service is provided as a study aid, and the Company does not guarantee any specific learning outcome, such as improved vocabulary or exam scores, that a user may expect from using the Service.
- The Company has no obligation to intervene in disputes arising through the Service between users or between a user and a third party (including advertisers), and is not liable for any resulting damage.
14. Damages
The Company shall not be liable for any damage incurred by a user in connection with the free Service, except for damage caused by the Company's intent or gross negligence. Damages related to Paid Content are governed by applicable law and the store's policy.
15. Dispute Resolution
- The Company and the user shall make all necessary efforts to amicably resolve any dispute arising in connection with use of the Service.
- If a dispute is not resolved despite the efforts in paragraph 1, either party may bring an action before the competent court under the Civil Procedure Act.
- The laws of the Republic of Korea govern any litigation between the Company and the user.
